Warsaw Soccer Ladies Keep On Winning
WARSAW – It’s been a busy week for the Warsaw girls soccer team.
It’s also been another productive and successful one so far for coach Peter Lucht’s talented group.
The Tigers made it three wins in four nights Thursday by blanking Manchester 4-0 in non-conference action at WCHS.
Warsaw, which beat Fort Wayne Snider Monday and won at league foe Plymouth Wednesday, ran its winning streak to eight in a row.
Senior standout Brooklyn Jackson was the star of the show Thursday for the Tigers. Jackson booted home a trio of goals and assisted on the fourth as Warsaw improved to 10-1 on the season.
“I am blessed by God to be a part of our team and corporation,” said Warsaw coach Lucht in an email. “Because of our rescheduled game with Plymouth, this was the third match of four this week. The girls have had to dig deep as the press to try and sustain a high level of play during their third match in four days.
“Congratulations of course go to Brooklyn Jackson, who scored tallied three goals and one assist on the evening. Congratulations also go out to Elizabeth Van Wormer for her goal, and to Brenna Shipley, Alyssa Atkins, and Megan Kratzsch for their assists. Also, congratulations go to our team for working to preserve the shutout. I am thankful to God for being able to be a part of this team.”
Jackson made it 1-0 in the 31st minute Thursday off an assist from Brenna Shipley. Junior Liz VanWormer then made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute, assisted by Jackson. Jackson scored a pair early in the final half, one in the 48th minute and another in the 53rd.
Alyssa Atkins and Megan Kratzsch assisted on the final two goals of the night.
The Warsaw junior varsity rolled to a 7-0 win. Kaitlin Whitaker led the team with two goals. Jubilee Stichter, Kennedy Patton, Lexi Myers, Cristel Vindel and Maddy Martz each had one goal. Tsige Berelsman and Mariah Rivera each had two assists for the JV tigers, who improve to 8-2-1 on the season.
Warsaw will host NLC and county rival Wawasee on Saturday for Senior Day. The JV match will begin at 10 a.m. with the varsity contest to follow.
