Warsaw Harriers Roll On In NLC
WARSAW – The Warsaw cross country teams continued their perfect run through the Northern Lakes Conference Tuesday night.
Both the girls and boys teams celebrated Senior Night in style with dominating performances to collect two more league victories.
Coach Matt Campbell’s girls team placed nine runners in the top 10 to defeated Concord 16-47 and Plymouth 15-50.
The boys team of coach Jim Mills had seven of the top eight finishers in besting Concord 17-46 and Plymouth 15-50.
Both Warsaw teams are now 5-0 in NLC action this fall.
Freshman Mia Beckham led the way for the No. 10 ranked girls team. Beckham took top individual honors with a winning time of 20:05.
Charlene Orr was second in a time of 20:11 for the hosts, while Allison Miller was third in 20:20. Anna Craig was fourth in 20:21 with Emma Hayward sixth (20:21), Claire Kehler seventh (20:33) and Brooke Rhodes eighth (20:34) to round out the top seven.
Hannah Dawson was ninth overall in a time of 20:34 for Warsaw. Lauren Orr was 10th in 20:52 with Hannah Thompson 12th in 20:59.
Daniel Messenger dominated the boys race for the Tigers. The senior closed out his home course career with a winning effort of 17:11.
Jonathan Beres was runner-up on the boys side in 17:31. Jacob DeBoest was third for the Tigers in 17:32 with Avery Torres fifth (17:40), Lucas Howett sixth (17:48) TJ Day seventh (17:50) and Owen Glogovsky eighth (17:50).
Eric Cusick was 12th overall for Warsaw in 18:21. Nathaniel Gottschalk was 13th in 18:23 with Jacob Adley 14th in 18:32.
The Warsaw boys team was still without Nick Bergen. The senior missed the meet due to an injury.
The Tigers did welcome back to action Glogovsky, Torres and Day. All three were sidelined on Saturday at the New Prairie Invitational.
Warsaw will compete Saturday in the Culver Academies Invitational. The teams will then wrap up NLC action Tuesday versus Elkhart Memorial and Goshen at Shanklin Park in Goshen. The NLC Meet is set for Oct. 4 at Ox Bow Park.
The Goshen boys team is also 5-0 in the NLC after wins over NorthWood and Wawasee Tuesday night. The Goshen girls team is 4-1 in league action after defeating NorthWood and Wawasee Tuesday.
