Goshen Picks Up Big Wins
NAPPANEE – Goshen claimed the top two spots in both the boys and girls cross country races Tuesday night at Stauffer Park to pile up big wins against Wawasee and NorthWood.
The combos of Nora Rangel and Adrienne Henke on the girls side and Gerardo Abad and Shawn Graves on the boys side helped Goshen to sweep both circuits. The Goshen girls beat Wawasee 21-35 and NorthWood 16-47 while the Redskin boys trumped Wawasee 19-38 and Wood 22-37. The Wawasee girls claimed a split by beating NorthWood 17-46 and the Panther boys posted a mild upset in beating Wawasee 27-28.
Rangel won the girls race with a time of 20:45 and had Henke right on her heels down the giant hill at 20:56. Wawasee’s Courtney Linnemeier (third, 21:20) and Sarah Harden (fifth, 21:59) split up a pair of Goshen competitors, but taking five of the eight spots by Goshen allowed for an advantage on Wawasee, which had its fifth runner finish three spots back of Goshen’s fifth.
Aubrey Kuhn (22:20), Molly Swartz (22:49) and Yanelly Pizana (23:10) completed Wawasee’s top five.
Abad set the pace in the boys race with a swift time of 17:06, only to be matched by Graves with a time of 17:07. Wawasee’s Zack Cockrill finished third at 17:31, but Goshen had two more runners come in fifth and sixth, helping cinch the win. NorthWood’s Ryan Price ran a 17:35 on his home course, and aided by all five Panthers finishing in the top 15 while Wawasee had its fifth take 16th, the difference in the two team’s final scores.
Troy Carolus (17:56), Jaxon Bame (18:41), Erik Diaz (18:50) and Brady Robinson (18:58) rounded out Wawasee’s scorers.
Wawasee’s boys fall to 1-4 overall in the Northern Lakes Conference and the girls push to 3-2 overall. Wawasee will run at the Culver Academy Invite this Saturday and close out the NLC regular season next Tuesday at home with Concord and Northridge.
