Panthers Edge Warrior Tennis
SYRACUSE – Wawasee had its chances, but came up just short of ending its Northern Lakes Conference slide. The NorthWood boys tennis team managed to pull out three wins to trump the Warriors, 3-2, Monday afternoon at Wawasee.
The Warriors got wins from Todd Hauser and Cal Heinisch in singles play. Hauser earned a 6-2, 6-4 win against Jared Hoffman at one singles while Heinisch got a battle from Evan Nix before posting a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory at three singles.
NorthWood sealed up two wins in short order, with Ryan Menzie rolling past Nathan Perek 6-1, 6-1 at two singles and the one doubles team of Quinn Stillson and Caleb Yoder blanking Jake Hutchinson and Nate Haines.
The deciding court was the two doubles grid, where Nick Myers and Devyn Mangel labored to a 6-4, 7-6 score over Brayton Fretz and Leonard Kline.
NorthWood’s win sends Wawasee to an 0-7 mark in NLC play ahead of Wednesday’s conference tournament which will be played at Warsaw Community High School. The tournament commences again Thursday at Warsaw and wraps up Saturday at Northridge.
In JV play, NorthWood had Cooper Clark, Carl Clark and Brent Mast earn singles wins while Wawasee posted a pair of doubles wins. Tyler Rhodes and Tim Conley paired for one and Evan Krueger and Austin Kline teamed for the other doubles tally.
