Triton Sports Wrap – Sept. 16
The Triton boys tennis team came up on the short end of a 4-1 Northern State Conference match versus New Prairie Tuesday night.
The lone victory for the Trojans came at No. 2 singles. Gavin Eads rallied to post a 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 win for Triton.
The Trojans lost in straight sets at No. 1 singles with Jared Fisher and and at No. 3 singles with Mace Eads.
Triton also lost both doubles matches in straight sets as Alex Eib and Austin Sellers lost at No. 1 and the duo of Ben Waggoner and Spencer Glingle lost at No. 2.
Triton drops to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the NSC. The Cougars improve to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in league play.
New Prairie won the junior varsity match by a 5-1 final.
Cross Country Teams Compete
The Triton boys cross country team picked up a pair of wins and the girls split in a triangular at home versus Tippecanoe Valley and Rochester Tuesday.
Derek Johnston of the host Trojans won the boys race in a time of 18:08.
Triton posted a team score of 24 on the boys side, while Rochester had 46 and Valley 50.
Landon Kauffman was fourth for the Trojans in 19:03 with Bailey Watkins fifth in 19:17, Cordace Sherow sixth in 19:21 and Shawn Honeycutt eighth in 20:14.
Jesse led Valley by placing second overall in 18:48. Tom Solano was ninth in 20:24 for the Vikings.
Kayly Kitch led the Valley girls to two wins as she won the girls race in a time of 23:10.
Courtney Burns was third for the Vikings in 23:52 with Breelyn Conley fourth in 24:07, Brooklyn Conley ninth in 26:36 and Lexi Durkes 10th in 26:36.
Bailey McIntyre led the Triton girls by placing second in a time of 23:46.
Makayla Musilli was fifth for Triton in 24:21 with Aimee Gladieux eighth in 26:01.
Valley won the girls team competition with a score of 27. Triton scored 45 and Rochester had a 51.
Volleyball Team Rallies For A Win
The Triton volleyball team won the final two sets to outlast host Elkhart Christian Academy Tuesday night.
The Trojans rallied for a 26-24, 23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-12 road win.
Jaela Meister had a huge night for the winners as she slammed down 26 kills. She also had seven digs in the victory.
Becca Kennedy had 10 kills and six digs for the Trojans. Courtney Jennings had three aces and Quinn Downing eight digs.
Krystal Sellers contributed five kills and five digs and Nicole Sechrist had five kills.
Triton won the junior varsity match 25-13, 25-12. Brooklyn Bitting and Charlotte Morris each had five kills and Hannah Wanemacher four digs for the winners.
