Concord Claims Top Spot In Poll
The Northern Lakes Conference is well represented this week in the Associated Press high school football polls.
Undefeated Concord has moved into the top spot statewide in the Class 5-A poll. The Minutemen, who have won four straight NLC championships, improved to 4-0 on the season with a 44-21 home win over Wawasee last Friday night. That victory, coupled with previous No. 1 Fort Wayne Snider’s loss to Penn on Saturday, vaulted coach Tim Dawson’s team into the No. 1 spot.
Plymouth, which is also 4-0 after a huge NLC win at Northridge last week, is No. 8 in the Class 4-A poll. Also receiving votes in the 4-A poll are NLC schools NorthWood and Northridge.
Carmel holds down the top spot in Class 6-A this week. Penn checks in at No. 4.
Concord headlines the Class 5-A poll while Mishawaka is at No. 9. Columbus East (4-A), Andrean (3-A), Evansville Mater Dei (2-A) and Tri-Central (1-A) are the other No. 1 teams.
South Bend St. Joseph is No. 7 in 4-A, while Jimtown is receiving votes in 3-A. Winamac is ranked No. 2 in 1-A.
Concord leads the NLC standings at 3-0. Plymouth is second at 2-0, followed by NorthWood, Northridge and Warsaw all at 1-1. Elkhart Memorial is 1-2, with Wawasee and Goshen both at 0-2.
Concord hosts Goshen this Friday night in league play. Other NLC action has Warsaw at Northridge, NorthWood at Wawasee and Memorial at Plymouth.
