Family Safety Day This Saturday
Family Safety Day, presented by the Warsaw/Wayne Fire Territory, and sponsored by Kosciusko REMC is celebrating it’s seventh year, Saturday, September 13, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Warsaw’s Central Park and Center Lake Pavilion.
This year’s Family Safety Day will continue to offer free activities devoted to health and safety with a variety of hands-on learning activities, presentations and games. Kids can learn about bike safety, fire safety, stranger danger, electrical safety, water safety, first aid, and many other areas of safety at this year’s event.
Kosciusko Community Hospital will have several children’s activities, including their gummy worm ‘surgery’ station and hand washing education station, and they will provide blood pressure checks for adults. The South Bend Memorial Hospital “Health Works Hummer” will also be on site with health activities, including the Kohl’s “Fit Feastival” healthy eating games.
The Kosciusko Community YMCA is sponsoring a 5K Run for Fun and 1-mile Youth Fun Run (14 and under). The 5K will not be timed but a chance for anyone wanting to run with a group to finish a 5K. Registration is only required for the 1-mile youth run and will open at 11:00 at the Central Park Plaza. Both runs will begin and end at the Central Park Plaza.

Other free activities planned include: Safe Assured kids ID kits containing digital photo ID cards and a mini-CD encrypted with personal data, provided by the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist’s Club; and an animal safety display by the Animal Welfare League. The NIHHC (Northern Indiana Hispanic Health Coalition) will also be offering the following FREE medical screenings total cholesterol, glucose, BMI, and B/P, with an explanation of each result. New this year Protechs’ prevention tent will feature displays on smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, and electric safety.
Inside the Pavilion, a variety of health and safety organizations will also have booths to provide safety information and materials. Guests can also register to win a variety of prizes at the information booth, including smoke detectors, car seats, bike helmets, fire extinguishers, and more.
There will be an emergency vehicles display with fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, helicopter landings and departures, two KREMC bucket trucks, antique fire trucks and more. Other activities include a bicycle rodeo by the Warsaw Police Department; Warsaw/Wayne Fire Territory zip line rides for kids; water rescue demonstrations and boat rides; and the fire safety Save-A-Life trailer and hazards obstacle course.
