Canterbury Tennis Tops Tigers
FORT WAYNE – A strong Fort Wayne Canterbury tennis team blanked Warsaw by a 5-0 final Thursday.
The hosts did not lose a set in the non-conference matchup.
Sam Rice lost a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 1 singles for Warsaw. Nic Jansen was defeated 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 in a close one at No. 2 singles. David Homme lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
The Warsaw No. 1 doubles team of Christopher Herendeen and Caleb Ray lost 6-1, 6-1. The duo of Cole Baker and Justin Stout dropped a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) final at No. 2 doubles.
The Warsaw varsity drops to 4-5 overall on the season.
Canterbury won the junior varsity action by a 7-5 final. Colton Lind won in singles play for the Warsaw JV team. Winning in doubles play were the teams of Quentin Wright and Brandon Chan, Jacob Grimm and Diego Manuel, Ryan Wettschurack and Hudson Snyder and Lind and Andrew Gauger.
Warsaw will host its own invitational Saturday starting at 9 a.m. The Tigers then host NLC foe Wawasee Tuesday, play at South Bend St. Joseph on Wednesday and play at league foe NorthWood on Thursday.
