Rockies Run Past Tigers
PLYMOUTH – The Warsaw football team was not able to weather a second storm Saturday.
This one came in the form of Taylor Fulton.
The Plymouth running back ran wild in pacing the Rockies to a 41-6 victory over the Tigers in the Northern Lakes Conference opener for both teams.
The league tilt was suspended by storms Friday night with Plymouth leading 7-3 midway through the first quarter.
It was all Fulton when the contest resumed Saturday afternoon. The senior, who scored the first touchdown for his team Friday night, added four more rushing scores as the Rockies ran away to the win.
The undefeated Rockies, ranked No. 10 in Class 4-A, were up 7-3 thanks to a 10-yard touchdown run by Fulton when play resumed on Saturday.
Plymouth, which lost a 20-19 decision at Warsaw last season, went up 13-3 on a 19-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jack Barron in the second quarter Saturday. Warsaw cut the lead to 13-6 later in the period when Caleb Klusman connected on his second field goal of the game, this one coming from 44 yards out.
The Rockies took a 20-6 lead into the locker room at halftime thanks to Fulton’s third touchdown of the contest. This one came from a yard out with just 35 seconds left in the opening half.
Fulton, who rushed for 229 yards in the win, scored three mores times in the final half. The 5-9, 177-pounder tallied on runs of 17, one and eight yards.
Barron, a junior, completed 10-13 passes for 141 yards for Plymouth. The host Rockies out gained the Tigers 451-155 in total yards.
The Rockies improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NLC. Warsaw drops to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Warsaw will host Elkhart Memorial (1-2) and Plymouth will play at undefeated Northridge (3-0) in NLC games next Friday night. Memorial edged past Goshen 14-13 and Northridge whipped Wawasee 55-0 in NLC openers on Saturday.
