Panthers Tame Tigers, Pilgrims
WINONA LAKE – The NorthWood girls golf team continued its impressive conference winning streak Thursday.
The Panthers made it wins No. 19 and 20 in a row in Northern Lakes Conference dual match play by topping host Warsaw and Plymouth in league action.
NorthWood, an honorable mention selection in this week’s statewide coaches poll, shot 180 as a team over the Stonehenge Golf Club layout. Host Warsaw shot 189 and Plymouth finished with a 202 in the NLC triangular.
The Panthers, whose NLC winning streak dates back to 2011, improve to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the NLC. NorthWood will face fellow league unbeaten Wawasee on Sept. 10 in an NLC triangular and the league regular-season finale with host Northridge at the Meadow Valley Golf Club in Middlebury. Wawasee improved to 5-0 in the NLC tonight with a 181-229 league win over host Goshen.
Warsaw senior Alexis Manwaring fired a 41 to share individual medalist honors with Summer Stillson of NorthWood, who also shot 41.
Kristen Watson shot a 47 and Madi Graham a 49 for the host Tigers, who are now 10-4 overall and 3-2 in NLC action. Ash Jain had a 52 and Page Desenberg a 59 for coach Ray Davis’ Tiger squad.
Linnzie Richner shot a 43 and Madison Richner a 46 for coach Adam Yoder’s Panther team. Senior Rachel Beebe, who has been in the NorthWood lineup for all 20 of its consecutive NLC wins, shot a 50. Hope Cripe had a 61 for the winners.
Randi Dunn paced Plymouth with a 47. Morgan Oberly had a 49 for the Pilgrims. Katie McDonald and Lauren Kolter each shot 53 and Katie Johnson 62 for Plymouth.
Morgen Fuentes shot a 58 for Warsaw in JV play.
Warsaw will host Elkhart Memorial and Culver Academies Monday at 5 p.m. at Stonehenge. NorthWood will compete in the Culver Academies Invitational on Saturday at Mystic Hills in Culver.
