UPDATE: Claypool Woman Serious After Hitting Tree
UPDATE: According to a report filed by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Alana L. Gonzales, 34, Ben Lane, Claypool, was traveling eastbound on W. 900 South near the intersection of 750 North. Her vehicle traveled off the south side of the road and struck a utility pole. Gonzales was able to steer the vehicle back onto the roadway, but overcorrected, exited the south side of the roadway a second time and struck a tree.
She was airlifted to Fort Wayne for internal injuries in her abdomen. According to the report, a PBT indicated Gonzales’ blood alcohol content was .08 at the time of the accident. Results of a blood test are still pending.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash that has seriously injured a Claypool woman.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies say 34-year-old Alana L. Gonzales was airlifted after the accident that happened at 7:49 p.m. Wednesday. The investigation found that Gonzales was eastbound on CR 900 South near Beaver Dam Lake, traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle traveled off the south side of the road and struck a utility pole before entering back on the road.
Gonzales attempted to correct the vehicle, but ultimately overcorrected and struck a tree head-on.
Michael Powell was at home when he heard the crash and came out to assist Gonzales, who sustained abdominal, pelvic and internal injuries. She was airlifted by Samaritan to a Fort Wayne hospital and is today listed in serious condition.
Toxicology tests are pending.
