Beckham Paces Warsaw Harriers
WATERLOO – Mia Beckham led the way for Warsaw Saturday in the DeKalb Baron Cross Country Classic.
The WCHS freshman placed 14th overall as the Tigers took seventh place in the 11-team meet.
Beckham covered the course in a time of 21:34 to pace her team.
Warsaw chose to rest its top nine varsity runners on Saturday in order for them to be ready for the Tiger Invitational on Sept. 2 and then the conference opener versus Northridge and NorthWood on Sept. 9.
Northridge won the team title Saturday by posting a score of 59. Huntington North was second at 61, followed by DeKalb (86), Carroll (136), Concordia (150), Columbia City (169), Warsaw 173), Fort Wayne North (182), Fort Wayne South (209), Fort Wayne Northrop (246) and East Noble (265).
Senior Emma Lemon was the second Tiger to hit the finish line as she placed 34th in a time of 22:41. Sophomore Mallory Hooks was 35th in 22:46 for coach Matt Campbell’s team.
Completing the top seven Saturday for the Tigers were freshman Liza Lewis in 50th place in a time of 23:17, followed by freshman Meredith Phipps in 53rd (23:24), senior Kendra Patton in 63rd (24:13) and sophomore Michaela Roark in 75th (25:11).
Warsaw will host its own Tiger Invitational on Tuesday at WCHS with both the girls and boys teams taking part starting at 5 p.m.
