Lions Top Vikings
BREMEN – Host Bremen found a way to top Tippecanoe Valley Friday night.
More accurately, the host Lions found a “Topper” way to defeat the Vikings in prep football action.
Bremen junior Ryan Topper hauled in four touchdown receptions to lead the way for the winners. Topper caught scoring strikes of 47, 17, 55 and 23 yards from sophomore Matt Box in the win.
Topper caught a pair of touchdown passes in the opening half as Bremen took a 14-0 lead.
The Vikings, who lost 22-7 to Bremen a year ago, cut the lead in half on a six-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Jonah Mikel.
Garrett Bell scored on a two-yard run and Jarred Littlejohn tallied an 18-yard touchdown run for the Vikings.
Brett Louderback also scored for the Lions, who evened their season mark at 1-1. Bremen bounced back from a 56-19 loss at Plymouth in their opener.
Bremen finished 9-4 a year ago and won a Class 2-A sectional championship. The Lions did lose 15 seniors from that talented team.
Valley had four turnovers in the loss, while Bremen had two. Each team had plenty of offense with the Lions piling up 409 yards and the Vikings posting 345.
The Vikings, who lost 36-13 to Culver Academies in week one, fall to 0-2.
Valley hosts Manchester in the Three Rivers Conference opener next Friday night. Bremen opens Northern State Conference play at New Prairie next Friday.
