Warsaw Sports Wrap – Aug. 28
Alexis Manwaring continued to lead the way Thursday for the Warsaw girls golf team.
The senior standout earned medalist honors as the Tigers opened Northern Lakes Conference play with a pair of wins.
Manwaring fired a 43 as the Tigers defeated host Goshen and Northridge in action at the Maplecrest Country Club in Goshen.
Coach Ray Davis’ squad shot 191, while the Redskins tallied a 226 and the Raiders checked in at 231.
Ash Jain carded a 47 for the winners, who improved to 8-2 overall on the season and 2-0 in league play. Page Desenberg finished with a 49 and Kristen Watson had a 52 to complete the varsity scoring. Madi Graham shot a 55 for the varsity.
Morgen Fuentes shot a 51 for the Tigers in JV play.
Emily Thomas led Northridge with a 45. Claire Palsynski had the low score for Goshen with a 55.
Warsaw will face Wawasee and Concord on Tuesday in NLC play at the Maxwelton Golf Club in Syracuse.
Warsaw Tennis Team Rolls
The Tiger tennis team rolled past host Elkhart Memorial 5-0 in its Northern Lakes Conference debut Thursday.
Senior Sam Rice returned to the lineup to lead the way for Warsaw. Rice, who missed the first two matches due to illness, posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.
Nic Jansen was outstanding at No. 2 singles for the Tigers with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Andrew Gauger completed the singles sweep with a straight set win at No. 3.
The No. 2 doubles duo of Caleb Ray and Cole Baker rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Christopher Herendeen and Justin Stout completed the shutout by rallying for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 win.
Warsaw won the JV match 9-1. Winning in JV singles for the Tigers were Ryan Wettschurack, David Homme, Kyler Bartol and Graham Ousley. Winning in doubles play were the teams of Coltin Lind and Hudson Snyder, Keeton Bartol and Hayden Steger, Bryce Pequignot and Quentin Wright, Jacob Graham and Diego Miguel and Nick Marsh and Homme.
Warsaw, now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the NLC, will host Goshen in NLC action on Tuesday.
Tigers Fit To Be Tied
The Warsaw boys soccer team played to a 3-3 stalemate at Plymouth Thursday night.
The Class 2-A No. 10 Tigers allowed a goal with about eight minutes to play off a free kick for the tie in their Northern Lakes Conference opener.
Warsaw, now 1-0-2 on the season, led 2-1 at halftime. The host Pilgrims scored first before Manuel Rodriguez tied the contest on a free kick. The Tigers took a 2-1 lead as Sam Allbritten found the net on a pass from Brad O’cock.
The Pilgrims tied the contest at 2-2 off a corner kick. Tito Cuellar then put Warsaw up 3-2 off an assist from O’cock before the hosts scored late to forge the tie.
Warsaw will host Penn Saturday. The JV match begins at 10 a.m. with the varsity contest to follow.
