Wawasee Sports Wrap – Aug. 27
Wawasee jumped into the Northern Lakes Conference girls golf season with a bang Wednesday, sweeping Plymouth and host Elkhart Memorial at Christiana Creek. The Lady Warriors posted a 182 to beat the Pilgrims by 18 strokes and the Chargers by much more.
Kylee Rostochak led all golfers with a 42, her top individual score of the fall to pace the Lady Warriors, now 10-0 this season. Mikala Mawhorter and Elizabeth Jackson both shot 45s, Aubrey Schmeltz a 50 and Kamryn Foy a 51.
Plymouth’s Miranda Dunn shot a 46 and Katie McDonald a 50 as the only two scores that matched any of Wawasee’s posted scores.
Allyson Disher led Memorial with a 57, which finished with 251 team score.
Wawasee will get back at it in the NLC Tuesday when Concord and Warsaw pay Maxwelton a visit.
Plymouth On Point In Big Win
Plymouth made no bones in its quest to win a Northern Lakes Conference boys tennis title, crushing Wawasee 5-0 Wednesday in Plymouth.
Plymouth’s singles players lost just two points on the day, where Warrior Nate Perek went 2-6 on Nate Knepp before Pilgrim junior swept Perek in the second set. Both John Hunter and John Gerard both shut out Cal Heinisch and Nate Haines to roll in singles courts.
Max Holloway and Ryan Johnson gave up just two games in the one doubles match with Jake Hutchinson and Todd Hauser while Braydon Davidson and Nick Felke swept in straight sets over Cameron Brill and Tyler Rhodes at two doubles.
The loss sets Wawasee back to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the NLC. Wawasee will return to the court Thursday afternoon in Syracuse when West Noble pays a visit.
