Wawasee Sports Wrap – Aug. 26
After an 0-2 start to the season, Wawasee is back to .500 after a 25-21, 27-25, 25-19 win against visiting Central Noble Tuesday night.
The Lady Warriors, now 4-4 on the year, had a lot of different faces help its cause in what amounted to a very balanced team effort. Five different girls led a category against the Lady Cougars, led by Alli Ousley’s 20 assists. Aly Anderson dug 23 attempts while Addison Ayres hammered home seven kills and also added two aces. Madi Wilson led the serving sheet with three aces and pitched in eight digs. Liz Hardy had a block while Becca Anderson and Paige Hlutke combined for 11 kills.
Wawasee had an easier time in the JV game, crushing Central Noble 25-9, 25-12. Hannah Marie Lamle had three kills, Ashley Beer six digs and Skylar Janda had two kills and a block.
The JV squad moves to 5-2 on the year.
Wawasee will return to the court Thursday in a trip to Bethany Christian.
Kickers Can’t Find The Net
Wawasee rebounded from a very tough loss Saturday to Westview to play Manchester much tighter Tuesday evening. Despite the much improved defensive showing, Wawasee fell 1-0 at Manchester.
A goal in the 36th minute by Tahnee Fuentes was all the soccer gods allowed in the match, a far cry from the 10-goal massacre put on by Westview just three days prior.
“We struggled to control the ball and as a result turned it over throughout the game,” said Wawasee head coach Doug Heinisch. “The offense had some good chances but could not convert. The defense did a good job containing Manchester and played a good game.”
Wawasee (1-3) will try its hand in the Northern Lakes Conference Saturday when it entertains Concord.
Golf Rained Out
The Northern Lakes Conference girls golf openers were rained out all over the area. Included in the scribbles was the dual between NorthWood, Wawasee and host Northridge scheduled for Meadow Springs Golf Course in Middlebury. The triangular was not immediately rescheduled.
