She was born on April 17, 1926, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Shirley Elery and Beatrice Vernon (Barto) Shaneyfelt. Ethel graduated from Central High School in Fort Wayne and attended Fort Wayne Bible Institute. She earned her RN after graduating from South Chicago Community Hospital School of Nursing. Receiving her bachelor of science from Grace College, she went on to earn her master’s degree in counseling from the University of St. Frances, Fort Wayne.
Ethel lived most of her life in Warsaw and was a nurse within the Warsaw Community School System and an industrial nurse for Zimmer. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pierceton. Ethel had a servant’s heart in all she did – including activities within the churches she attended over the years, the many short term mission trips she went on, the ways she worked with Christian ministries – one of which included volunteering with Lakeland Child Evangelism Ministries. Ethel went on several mission trips to Russia with the Josh McDowell Ministry. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting items and making Gospel bracelets for various ministries. She shared totes that she made from strips of shopping bags. Ethel was always available to help care for the elderly, from baking muffins to helping attend to their personal needs.
She is survived by her daughter: Debra Wilson, Xenia, Ohio; four grandchildren: Micah (Amanda) Wilson, Xenia; Nate (Angie) Wilson, Columbus, Ohio; Rebekah Wilson (fiancé, Matt Craig), Xenia; Rachel Wilson (fiancé Samuel Stevenson), Xenia.
