Bacon Day is Aug. 30
Saturday, Aug. 30, is Bacon Day! Bacon day is an unofficial international holiday dedicated to bacon. This observance began in 2000 by a resident in Bradford, Mass. Bacon Day celebrations consist of bacon fans all over the world getting together to create and share dishes that contain bacon. Who would not enjoy a day filled with bacon goodness?
Bacon can be grilled, fried, boiled or baked. You can even add bacon to your favorite cupcake recipe! At the end of the day there are contests for the best bacon dish. Here at the library, we have many cookbooks where you could mix bacon with recipes and take part in bacon day with your friends and family. Check out a few of these books: Steaks, chops, roasts, and ribs by the editors of Cook’s Illustrated; Grilling: 57 essential recipes to eat smart, be fit, live well by the editors of Cooking Light; Picnics & barbecues by QVC’s Bob Bowersox; The Joy of healthy grilling: keeping the fat low and the flavor high by Joe Famularo.
Free Music Source
One of the many free services offered by the library is Freegal. All patrons can use this service. Freegal gives patrons access to free music and music video downloads weekly. Do you use iTunes? Freegal is very similar, but the library has paid for the songs or videos you download.
There are thousands of tunes to choose from. From John Legend and Johnny Cash to Johann Sebastian Bach, you can browse through all the artists or look for a specific song. If you have a Milford library card and internet access, then you can use Freegal! The patrons who already receive their weekly downloads highly recommend using this free service. Stop by or call in to ask us for more information. Don’t forget to log on and get your three free songs a week.
Grandparents Day
Grandparents’ Day is on Sunday, Sept. 8. In celebration of their special day, the library will be giving away an Heirloom Journal, which is a wonderful tool for grandparents to use to record family history and special memories that can be passed on to their grandchildren in their own handwriting and words of love. Sign up for a chance to win the Journal at the Adult Circulation Desk, beginning Monday, Aug. 25, and the drawing will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7.
