WCPL Helps You Plan Your Get-Away
Article by Laurie Voss, WCPL Circulation Supervisor
There is still some time left for a late summer vacation, or many be you are ready to begin planning for Fall Break or Christmas Break. As I write this, I am just a few hours away from beginning my own vacation.
Working in the circulation department, I have seen a lot of books check out on vacation destinations, and have spoken to a lot of people who share their destinations with us. This summer I have spoken to people traveling to Washington DC, Seattle, Florida, Paris, England, Kentucky, Costa Rica, and some places I am sure I have forgotten. What are some of your favorite travel destinations? Maybe you have a bucket list of places you would like to visit. My list includes Switzerland, which may or may not ever happen, but who knows?
The Warsaw Community Public Library has a large section of materials devoted to the 50 states and just about anywhere else you would like to travel. Our offerings are not just books, as we have lots of films devoted to travel, and even some audio books which will help you decide where you would like to venture to.
One of my dream trips has always been Route 66. When I owned a PT Cruiser, I wanted to travel on Route 66, but it never happened. I recently read a book by Rick Antonson titled, Route 66 Still Kicks: Driving America’s Main Street. That book really made me want to take that trip before it is totally lost
Other books that could help you plan your next trip are, 1,000 Places To See Before You Die, 100 Great Journeys, 1001 Historic Sites You Must See Before You Die or 1001 Natural Wonders You Must See Before You Die (am I sensing as theme here). We even have planning books such as How To Be the World’s Smartest Traveler, How To Travel the World For Free and even Inside Secrets To Finding a Career In Travel.
And don’t forget to pick up music compact discs for kids and audio books for the adults to help fight travel fatigue. Who can travel with little ones without the soundtrack to “Frozen”? Or maybe a Dr. Seuss disc?
Finally, don’t forget to pack movies….you must have entertaining movies to keep the kids occupied; after all, who wants to keep hearing, “Are we there yet?” Let WCPL help you plan your next vacation.
