Boy, 4, Struck By Backing Truck
A 4-year-old Fort Wayne boy sustained numerous injuries, including partially collapsed lungs, when he was hit by a truck Friday night.
The accident happened at 24 EMS B43A Ln., Leesburg, just after 4:30 p.m. According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department incident report, Blaine Holland was riding his bicycle in the Pine Bay Trailer Park on Sechrist Lake when a pickup truck, driven by Gregory Fisher, 61, backed up and struck the boy.
Fisher said he was traveling north on B43A Ln and observed a small male juvenile riding his bicycle. He stated that he then turned west at the curve to back into a parking spot in front of his residence. As he was backing into his parking spot, he heard a noise under his tires. Fisher said he immediately got out of the truck to see what it was and observed Holland laying on the ground next to his bicycle.
Holland was treated by medics at the scene and transported to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Jason and Brittany Holland were at the scene and provided information for their son, Blaine Holland. On Saturday, Jason Holland told investigating officer Michael Fowler that Blaine sustained a broken collar bone, two fractured ribs, a fracture in his right cheek, a fractured shoulder blade and two partially collapsed lungs.
No charges are expected.
