Stewart Cancels Area Appearances
PLYMOUTH – NASCAR driver Tony Stewart will not be making a couple of area appearances later this week as originally planned.
Stewart, after being involved in a tragic accident at a dirt race track in New York on Saturday night, will not race at Plymouth Speedway this coming Saturday night. He has also cancelled his autograph session and question and answer forum with fans set for Thursday at the Newton Center in Lakeville.
Stewart, whose car hit and killed 20-year old driver Kevin Ward Jr. Saturday night, did not race in Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen.
“We at Plymouth Speedway extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the family of Kevin Ward Jr. and thoughts and prayers to Tony Stewart and his family,” Plymouth Speedway said in a statement. “Tony Stewart will not be racing at Plymouth Speedway this Saturday. More information on the weekend’s racing will be announced this week.”
The Bob Newton Classic at the Plymouth Speedway Saturday night will go on as scheduled.
Anyone who purchased tickets for the autograph session on Thursday can contact the Newton Center at 574-784-2749 to find out how they can receive a refund.
