Sand Storm Rumbles To Upsets, Title
NORTH WEBSTER – An extra week was needed to settle matters, but a champion was crowned Thursday night in the finals of the North Webster Beach Volleyball tournament.
After dealing with rain last Thursday which washed out the semi-finals, games reconvened at the North Webster Community Center on a calm and ideal night. When the sand settled, the members of Sand Storm stood tall after a pair of upsets.
The No. 3 seeded Storm knocked off No. 1 seed Sets On The Beach in the championship 21-15, 22-20. Storm also upended No. 2 seed Sand Animals 21-13, 20-22, 15-13 in the second semi-final. The Beach, which had been a firm top seed all season, needed three sets to reach the final after a 15-21, 21-15, 15-13 result on No. 5 seed Solid Force. The Beach entered the tournament as the defending champion.
The community center will host a sand volleyball tournament Aug. 23 in honor of the North Webster Community Center 10th anniversary celebrations. This tournament takes the place of the Dixie Days tournament that was not held in late July. For more information on entering a team, contact Mike Kissinger at [email protected].
