Erich E. Lisdat
Erich E. Lisdat, 85, of Bremen, Ind., and formerly of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 12:05 a.m., Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at Signature Health Care of Bremen, after being in failing health for several years.
He was born on Dec. 15, 1928, in Jurgenrody Ostyr, East Prussia, German to Emil and Lena (Gaul) Lisdat. On Sept. 6, 1958, in Mentone, Ind., he was married at the First Baptist Church of Mentone to Viola F. Thomas. She preceded him in death.
He and his wife were farmers raising grain, cattle, hogs and chickens. He also worked for Creighton Bros. in his earlier years. Erich and his family escaped East Prussia to Germany during WWII crossing the frozen East Sea in the middle of the night. Erich moved to America on Dec. 15, 1951. He received his United States citizenship on May 15, 1957. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mentone.
He is survived by sister-in-laws: Kathryn Greenawalt, Nappanee, Ind.; Donnabelle Thomas, Bourbon, Ind.; Waneta Thomas, Warsaw, Ind.; brother-in-laws: Robert L. (Edna) Thomas, Warsaw, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother: Walter; and a sister: Waltroud.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bourbon, located on 10th Road between South Fir Road and South Gumwood Road. Pastor Bryan Balasa will officiate. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to King Memorial Home, 101 North Tucker St., Mentone.
