Panthers Open Golf Season
LAFAYETTE – The NorthWood girls golf team collected a fourth-place finish to open its season Monday in the Lafayette Harrison Invitational.
The Panthers, fresh off the program’s first-ever State Finals appearance in 2013, shot a 357.
Linnzie Richner led the way for the No. 23 Panthers at the par 72 Coyote Crossing Golf Club. Richner shot a round of 83 to tie for eighth place among individuals in the 12-team field.
Summer Stillson carded a round of 86 for coach Adam Yoder’s squad to tie for 11th place among individuals. Baillie Richner shot a 92, Madison Richner 96 and Rachel Beebe 104 for the Panthers.
No. 20 Indianapolis Cathedral took top honors with a 331. No. 24 Crown Point was runner-up with a 335, followed by No. 19 Lafayette Jeff (348) and NorthWood (357). Brebeuf was fifth with a team total of 382, followed by Twin Lakes (385), McCutcheon (403), Plymouth (414), Lafayette Harrison (414), West Lafayette, Kokomo (441) and Lafayette Central Catholic (445).
Tiffany Curtis of Crown Point captured individual medalist honors with a two-under par round of 70.
NorthWood returns to action Tuesday in the Lafayette Jeff Invitational, which will feature eight teams ranked in the top 25 in the coaches’ preseason poll.
