UPDATE: Motorcyclist Unresponsive After Crash
Multi-Township EMS has opted to ground transport the victim of a motorcycle/mo-ped crash near the Devil’s Backbone in Warsaw.
Police say Shannon L. Hursey, 38, of Warsaw, is in critical condition after crashing into a guard trail. It happened on SR 25 at about 5:15 p.m. tonight.
Burket Fire Department was initially called to establish a landing zone at SR 25 and CR 400 South, but with an estimated time of arrival at 12 minutes, medics disregarded the helicopter and ground transported Hursey to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital.
Hursey was not wearing a helmet and crash scene investigators have not determined what caused him to leave the road and strike the guard rail.
The accident is still under investigation by the Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
The Kosciusko County FACT Team was assisted with the investigation by the Warsaw / Wayne Township Fire Territory, Burket Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS, Warsaw Police Department, and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
