Kurt Allen Engler
Kurt Allen Engler, 10, of Winona Lake, Ind., passed away at 9:11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Ind., from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident with a vehicle.
He was born on Sept. 11, 2003, in Warsaw, Ind., to Joshua Allen Engler and Dawn Angela (Pickart) Engler, who survive in Winona Lake.
He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Ind., and attended Jefferson Elementary School in Winona Lake where he excelled at math and enjoyed running on the track team. He loved playing outdoors and climbing trees with his friends and sisters, and he especially liked baseball. Kurt loved to be with his dad working on projects, singing songs with his mother and sisters, and going to church at Winona Lake Grace Brethren with his family.
He is survived by his parents; two sisters: Katharine and Renee Engler, at home; grandparents: Jack and Meta Sue Engler, Warsaw; David and Diana Pickart, Lowell, Ind.; great-grandparents: Ruby Engler, Iberia, Ohio; Beverly Pickart, Portage, Ind.; Oscar and Joyce Jolly, Valparaiso, Ind.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 25, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church and officiated by Pastor Kip Cone. A private family graveside service will take place at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Kurt Engler Memorial Fund, c/o Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake, Indiana 46590 to be designated at the family’s discretion; or checks may be made out to The Wagon Wheel Theatre for their youth program called Wagon Wheel Junior, 2515 E. Center Street, Warsaw, IN 46580 and would be appreciated by his family.
