Heroin Dealer Gets 20 Years
Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Michel Reed, Kosciusko County Prosecutor Daniel Hampton and the Warsaw Police Department are sending a strong message to drug dealers that they will be aggressively pursued and punished.
Last Monday, one of two Wabash residents who was arrested earlier this year was sentenced to prison for dealing heroin. Douglas Blaine Jordan, 26, received a 20-year term for selling what police said were large amounts of heroin in Wabash and Kosciusko counties.
Jordan and his girlfriend, Megan A. Martens, 24, also of Wabash, were arrested in Warsaw on Feb. 24 after Warsaw Police received an anonymous tip that the couple were in Warsaw. (See related)
Jordan was initially charged with Dealing in a Narcotic Drug More Than 3 Grams, a Class A felony; and for Possession of Narcotic Drug More than 3 Grams, a Class C felony. In a plea agreement, the C felony charge was dismissed.
Because Jordan had been incarcerated since his arrest, he was credited with 252 days time served.
Narcotics officers said Jordan and Martens were significant suppliers of heroin in the Kosciusko and Wabash county areas, selling between $3,000 and $5,000 of the drug locally each month. Martens told police they traveled to Chicago every 3 or 4 days to purchase more heroin to sell.
On June 9, Martens pleaded guilty to Dealing in a Narcotic Drug, a Class A felony, and her case was assigned to the newly established drug court. She has not yet been sentenced.
Warsaw Police continue to diligently work to reduce the influence of illegal drug activity in the community. Any drug tips can be called into the Warsaw Police Department at 574-372-9540.
