Wildcats Name New Hoops Coach
SOUTH WHITLEY – The new Whitko boys basketball coach should not have a problem finding his way around the Three Rivers Conference.
Roger Fleetwood, who began his prep coaching career at Tippecanoe Valley High School, is the new man in charge of the future of the Wildcats’ program.
Fleetwood’s hiring as the new Whitko coach was revealed Wednesday on the school’s athletics website.
Fleetwood has amassed a career coaching mark of 490-338 in his 36 seasons on the bench. He spent his first two seasons at Valley, starting in 178-79. His first Valley team went 10-14 and won a sectional title.
Fleetwood has spent the last seven seasons as the head coach at Brown County High School in southern Indiana. He was 53-92 there, including 3-15 this past season.
Fleetwood replaces Scott Wessel, who was 7-36 in his two seasons at Whitko.
Fleetwood has also coached at both Southmont and Perry Meridian high schools in Indiana as well as in Florida. His biggest coaching accomplishment was at South Gwinett High School, located just outside of Atlanta. His 2004 team there, led by current NBA player Louis Williams, won the Class 5-A Georgia state championship and was ranked No. 2 in the nation by USA Today.
Whitko was 1-20 overall and 0-7 in the TRC during the 2013-14 campaign.
