Castro, Scott Cutie King and Queen
Hayden Castro, son of Jenna Wireman, Etna Green and Hope Scott, daughter of Andy and Lisa Scott, Leesburg, were crowned the 2014 Mermaid Festival Cutie King and Queen tonight in North Webster.
This year’s competition had 32 girls and 14 boys competing for the title.
Also winning were: Haydenn Mitchell, son of Josh and Trisha Mitchell, Syracuse and Ella Stewart, daughter of Jace and Elizabeth Stewart, Syracuse, first runner-ups; Lucas keim, son of Tim and Paige Keim, Syracuse, and Ayla McClane, daughter of Ryan and Alissa McClane, Goshen, second runner-ups; and Cameron Senter, son of Shawn and Starr Senter, Syracuse; and Arya Meyan, daughter of Sam and Katie Meyan, Fort Wayne.
Cutie Parade winners were also announced for each of the three divisions: walking, hand drawn and motorized. The Best of Theme winner was Kenlee Grady. (See related story and parade video)
Winning the walking category were Kenlee Grady, first; Ella Stewart, second; McKayla Adair, third and Zeke Keim, fourth. Grady is the daughter of Matt and Wendy Grady, North Webster. Stewart is the daughter of Jace and Elizabeth Stewart, Syracuse. Adair is the daughter of Jerod and Charity Adair, Columbia City. Keim is the son of Tim and Paige Keim, Syracuse.
There were 40 entries in the walking category.
Winning the hand drawn category were: Zaiyla Marion, first; Cameron Senter, second; Mallory Szynal, third and Jaxon Nabinger, fourth. Marion is the daughter of Lauren Shortill, Syracuse. Senter is the son of Shawn and Starr Senter, Syracuse. Szynal is the daughter of John and Jennifer Szynal, Syracuse. Nabinger is the son of Trent and Nicole Nabinger, North Webster.
The hand drawn category had 17 entries.
Winners in the motorized category were: Delaney Hare, first; Carter Grady, second; Hayden Castro, third; and Kullayana Caudell, fourth. Hare is the daughter of Rob and Amanda Hare, Syracuse. Grady is the son of Matt and Wendy Grady, North Webster. Castro is the son of Jenna Wireman, Etna Green. Caudell is the daughter of Jon and Valina Caudell, North Webster.
Winners from the Cutie Parade and Cutie King and Queen Contest received trophies and educational bonds. First place winners received $5,000; second place $2,500; third place $1,500 and fourth place $1,000.
Also participating in this year’s contest were the 2013 Cutie Queen Alexia Cox and 2013 Cutie King Cooper Garden. The 2004 Cutie King and Queen Collin Stevens and Alexandria Fiscus; 2013 Queen of Lakes Kayla Courtney and 2013 Princess Morgan Kleppe were also assisting with the pageant.
