Charline Loretta Orn Craig
Charline Loretta Orn Craig, 94, formerly of Milford, Ind., passed away on Wednesday morning, June 25, 2014, at Springview Manor.
She was born Aug. 10, l919, on the front porch of her home on a farm near Milford, Ind., the only child of Orvil A. and Mabel A. (Rosenbohm) Orn, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Milford High School in 1937. On July 19, 1943, she married John S. Craig, who preceded her in death.
She worked as a waitress at Meyer Drug Company and as a receptionist at General Electric Company in Fort Wayne, Ind. There she met “the most wonderful man in the world”, her husband.
Her life as a wife and homemaker was centered on her husband and her boys’ activities as well as serving at her church and in her community. She never met a stranger and could talk the ear off a fencepost. Following the death of her beloved husband, she traveled to see her kids wherever they happened to be in this world. She dearly loved her grandchildren and was there for nearly all of their births. She could garage sale and price-haggle with the best of them. She was a good neighbor to all and felt most fulfilled when performing acts of kindness for others. In later years, she lived at Otterbein Senior Living in St. Marys, Ohio, then Primrose Retirement and Springview Manor in Lima, Ohio.
She is survived by three sons: Stephen A. (Vicki), Livingston, Texas; Allan O. (Diane), Sydney, Australia; Michael T. (Martha), Lima, Ohio; 10 grandchildren: Adam W. Craig, Lexington, Ky.; Leah W. (Tim Thornberry) Craig, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Jeremy S. (Melanie) Craig, Pendleton, Ind.; Melissa K. (Kevin) Spall, Barberton, Ohio; Savannah L. Craig, Sydney, Australia; Molly E. (Ben) Collins, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Africa; Matthew S. Craig, Marcus A. Craig, Michelle C. Craig and Micah J. Craig, all of Lima; one step-grandson: Joel G. Deane, Blackheath, Australia: and three great-grandchildren: Kessa A. Craig, Patrick J. Spall and Owen N.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son: Fred; and daughter-in-law: Mary Alice Whitehead.
Visitation will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at the funeral home. Dr. Daniel H. Messner will officiate. Burial will follow the service at 3:30 p.m. in Milford Cemetery, Milford, Ind.
