UPDATE: Van Strikes Into Syracuse Building
At 1:44 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, emergency personnel responded to an accident involving a van that had struck into two parked vehicles and a building on North Huntington Street in Syracuse.
According to Syracuse Police Chief Tony Ciriello, the accident occurred on North Huntington Street just north of Main Street. Ciriello stated that the the driver of a van, Daniel L. Halsey, 30, of Pierceton, had a diabetic issue and struck into two parked cars registered to James E. Clark of Albion and Gary L. Ball of Syracuse, before striking into an antiques business owned by Gary Ball.
Medics reported at the scene that Halsey had a blood sugar level of 21, which was extremely low and caused him to act erratically. Halsey stated that he couldn’t remember the accident at the scene.
Co-works of Halsey at Davidsen’s Pier Services stated that they were passengers in the van earlier and stated that Halsey appeared tired. After noticing this, Keith Williams, a co-worker and passenger in the van, offered to drive for Halsey, who agreed but unexpectedly drove off. Halsey sped through the intersection of SR 13 and Main Street northbound when he veered off the right side of the road way and struck the two vehicles and building.
Ciriello noted that following the accident, the driver of the van, who was in a state of a confusion, walked away from the scene but was found by police nearby.
No injuries were reported and Halsey was checked out at the scene. According to a police report, damages are estimated to cost around $50,000.
