Great Turnout For Silver Lake Days
The continuation of the Silver Lake Days’ celebration today was blessed by both perfect weather and a healthy-size crowd.
The annual Silver Lake Days parade stepped off just after 11 a.m. this morning, and featured dozens of tractor, cutie contestant, fire department and law enforcement floats.
Several floats represented this year’s theme, “The Roaring 20s.” Parade judges made notes and handed out several awards afterward, including to young Vivienne Spangle, who was named cutie queen; Carson Weitzel, honored as cutie king; and to two-year-old Grace Metzger, the judges’ choice winner.
One float, the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders, brought people to their feel — to sing the national anthem — while another, requesting donations to the Logan Heeter fund, almost brought them to tears.
On Friday night a large crowd showed up in downtown Silver Lake out for the annual ice cream social. Saturday, garage sales, bounce houses and food vendors were all busy as well. And just down the street, a half dozen teams— some professional, some just young men wanting to have fun — waged a wet war against each other via a waterball tournament that took place outside the Silver Lake Conservation building.
In addition to Friday’s festivities and events, guests were entertained by a performance from the Roann Renegades, a dance group, in front of the judges stage as well as the car show and Echoes of the Past tractor/equipment display.
Events continued into the evening. A bed race took place at 6 p.m. on Main Street; at 7 p.m., a Silver Lake Days queen was crowned; and at 8 p.m., the band Random Play performed outdoors, just east of the corner of Main Street and S.R. 15.
