Milford Appropriates Emergency Funding
During an emergency session held on Tuesday night, Milford Town Council approved additional funding to supplement a contract with Beer and Slabaugh that had been previously approved. The Nappanee company was previously contracted to clean the ditch along the east side of Old State Road 15, north of Syracuse Street.
The added funding became necessary as a result of the resignation of Mike Clark from the town utilities department. According to Milford Utilities Superintendent Randy Veach, his department had planned to assist in the cleanup portion of the project but was unable to do so with a reduced staff. The contract addendum calls for Beer and Slabaugh to be paid $150 per hour per truck used in the cleanup.
On a related note, the council approved an advertisement to replace Clark at the wastewater treatment plant. The town will proceed in its search for a Class II wastewater operator. Until a replacement is hired, the town will continue its contract with Atsbury to provide service to the plant. The contract can be terminated with 30 days notice.
The council will meet in executive session prior to its next regular meeting, scheduled at 7 p.m. Monday, July 14.
