Mast, NorthWood Doubles At State
The quest for a state championship continues Friday for a trio of area high school tennis players.
Fairfield sophomore Emily Mast makes her second straight appearance as a No. 1 singles player in the State Finals.
Mast will take a 28-0 record into a quarterfinal round match versus Denise Azcui, a junior from Bloomington South. Azcui is 19-0 on the season. Their match is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis.
The winner of the Mast-Azcui match advances to the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. back at Park Tudor to play Carmel senior Bailey Padgett, who is 20-2. The state championship match is at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The NorthWood No. 1 doubles team of senior Kennedy Walter and junior Tori Schwartz will also be in quarterfinal action Friday. They will face the Fort Wayne Carroll team of senior Makenzie Schoeff and junior Taylor Stanchin, who are 27-2. That match is also slated for 2 p.m. at Park Tudor. Walter and Schwartz are 19-3 this season.
The winner advances to play the Jasper team of senior Brooke Lueken and junior Elisabeth Ahlbrand in the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. The doubles state title match is also set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Park Tudor.
