Dixie Donates Tickets To Big Brothers Big Sisters
This spring the Dixie Sternwheeler Inc. received a generous donation from an area resident who wanted to share the experience of riding the Dixie Boat with children from this area who might otherwise not be able to ride.
William “Billy” Clutter passed away in 2007. As a result of his passing, he provided this opportunity. To make this possible, Dixie Sternwheeler Inc. has contacted many children’s organizations, and Big Brothers Big Sisters is one of the first groups that will be participating in helping make Clutter’s dream come true.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a 501 C3 not-for-profit organization operating under the belief inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country.
They develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. Their mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever, based on Christian values.
The need in Kosciusko County is great, and Big Brothers Big Sisters has been supporting children in this county for more than 30 years with mentors and opportunity. Big Brothers Big Sisters will distribute a free Dixie ticket to each of the community based “Bigs” in Kosciusko County, so when they are on an outing with their “Little,” their “Little” will have the opportunity to ride the Dixie, fulfilling Clutter’s dream.
“We are grateful to partner with the Dixie Sternwheeler so these kids can enjoy the entertaining experience and historic value of a Dixie ride around beautiful Lake Webster,” said Trina Hoy. “It’s amazing to me the number of kids that live in a county with so many lakes that have never even been on a boat. This is a great opportunity for them.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters in Kosciusko County is actively pursuing volunteer positive role models to serve as “Bigs” in all parts of Kosciusko County in both school based and community based programs. Being a “Big” only takes three to four hours a month. It’s free, fun and very rewarding for both adult and child. They partner with businesses to provide a proven brand that businesses can trust recommending to their employees for volunteer opportunities. And they need the support of businesses to be able to make a positive impact on the community one child at a time.
