A Michigan man who was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon with severe head injuries after a motorcycle crash in Nappanee, has died.
According to Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department investigators, George J. Bommarito, 49, of Petoskey, Mich., passed away at 11:39 a.m. Sunday, one day after he collided with a passenger car on U.S. 6, west of CR 11.
Police say the driver of the car, 18-year-old Brittany K. Keomongkhon of Wakarusa, was traveling east on U.S. 6 west and began to turn right to travel south on CR 11, but then abruptly made a maneuver to turn left instead. Bommarito was attempting to pass the car, which resulted in a right angle collision with the car.
Bommarito sustained incapacitating head trauma in the collision.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department’s Crash Investigation Team is continuing their investigation of the collision.
