Hobbs Leads Way For Wildcats
FORT WAYNE – Walker Hobbs led the way for the Whitko boys track team Thursday night in sectional competition.
Hobbs earned a runner-up sectional finish in the shot put as the Wildcats captured fifth place in the tough Fort Wayne Wayne Sectional.
Hobbs uncorked a top throw of 49-2 in the shot put to earn a spot in the Marion Regional May 29.
The top four finishers in each event at the sectional Thursday night move on to regional action next Thursday at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Homestead scored 137 points to claim the team championship at Wayne. Whitko finished in fifth place with 49.5 points.
Alex Morales also punched his regional spot for the Wildcats by placing third in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.65.
Brady Herendeen was third in the long jump for Whitko with a top effort of 19-9.
Gavin Howard placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 131-4 for the Wildcats.
The Whitko 4 X 100 relay team also earned a regional berth by placing fourth. The team of Will Bumbaugh, Garrett Elder, Herendeen and Gavin Powell clocked in at 45.18.
