Bring your imagination and build with the Library’s Lego collection between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. every Thursday. Family movie matinees will be held on at 2 p.m. Fridays, June 13 and 27. Enjoy animated excitement and comedy along with a popcorn snack and a drink in the comfort of the Library’s meeting rooms. Make & Take “Eco Crafts” created with recycled materials will also be offered in the Children’s Department from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 6 and Friday, 20.
Several weekly science-themed activities, which reinforce NPL’s Summer Reading Challenge theme, “Fizz, Boom, Read,” will take place throughout the summer. Programs are designed for children ages 6-11 and include Mad Scientist Mondays on June 9, 16 and 23, offering simple science experiments and Totally Awesome Tuesdays, which will bring science, nature and technology to life with the following special guest presenters from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Get Excited About Science will be presented by Steve Belliveau on Tuesday, June 10. Using dramatic demonstration, easy to see equipment, humor, music and audience participation, Steve illustrates down to earth basic ideas about air/water pressure, magnetism and electricity, friction, chemistry, simple machines, conservation of energy, sound and color.
- Local experts from Solar Energy Systems of Nappanee will explain how to “Harvest Sunlight” through fun hands-on interaction with sun-powered toys, trivia and giveaways on Tuesday, June 17.
- Get up-close and personal with live birds of prey with a visit from the Lake Milton Raptor Education Center on Tuesday, June 24.
Little ones, age birth through 5, will also explore nature and science with music, movement, stories and take-home projects in weekly “Boom Into More” story time sessions from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesdays, June 11, 18 and 25.
