INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A new popular culture convention, Indy PopCon, will be held in the Indiana Convention Center from May 30 – June 1 and attendees from all over the Midwest are invited to celebrate comic books, video games, television and movie entertainment and Internet culture.
Pop Con LLC, a new business founded by a group of Indianapolis natives, has booked more than 300,000 square feet in the Indiana Convention Center to host their first convention in Indianapolis. The group has over 50 years of combined convention experience and is anticipating a first year attendance topping 15,000.
PopCon will draw inspiration from larger shows such as San Diego Comic Con and Chicago Comic Con, but will have a unique focus on publishers, artists, and popular internet stars and broadcasters. “Pop culture is shifting today,” said Shawn Smith, communications director. “Years ago an artist would need to be discovered in order to reach the mass market. In today’s culture, anyone can be a star thanks to the Internet.”
By next May, PopCon anticipates dozens of famous celebrities, artists, and publishers will come to Indianapolis for the show. Early celebrities and artists booked for the convention include stars from the popular television show Game of Thrones, artists known for their work with Disney and Star Wars, and self-publishing internet stars with hundreds of thousands of followers.

“Indianapolis is a great market and there is plenty of room for growth,” said Zore. “Both of our conventions can thrive in this space, and we look forwarding to helping grow the Indy nerd and geek culture.” PopCon has estimated crowd of 15,000 attendees and 400 artists and exhibitors over the 3-day convention.
