ATV Accident Results In Serious Injury
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an ATV accident that happened near the Barbee Chain of Lakes this evening.
ICO Nathan Hooley investigated the accident that resulted in a severe arm injury to David Fugate, 51, of Warsaw. According to Hooley, Fugate was riding an ATV at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday night on McKenna Road.
Fugate told officers the brakes on the ATV locked up causing it to flip end over end. Fugate was thrown onto the road and the ATV ultimately landed on his legs. Having suffered a severe break to his left arm, Hooley believes Fugate likely attempted to catch himself upon impact.
The exact cause of why his ATV malfunctioned is unknown at this time. Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor to this accident. Officers will continue their investigation tomorrow, but note Fugate was not wearing protective gear.
Fugate was transported to Fort Wayne Parkview’s trauma center due to the severity of his broken arm.
Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage ATV operators to wear a protective helmet and protective clothing while operating any ATV.
Assisting at the scene were officers of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s department, North Webster police department, North Webster Fire Department and North Webster EMS.
