Tip Leads Mentone PD To Meth
A public safety concern in Mentone closed down a portion of SR 25 on Friday night and ultimately landed two women in jail on drug charges.
According to Mentone Police Chief James Eades, the police were notified Friday of the manufacturing of methamphetamine that had been going on in a home at 504 W. Main St. in Mentone. A Mentone officer and a Mentone reserve officer followed up on the tip at about 9 p.m. that night.
During the investigation officers located active methamphetamine labs inside the residence along with drug paraphernalia. The manufacturing of the methamphetamine was in a extremely dangerous process, which prompted the police to shut down the immediate area of SR 25 for approximately 2 hours. During that time, Mentone Fire Department was called in to stand by while officers of the ISP clandestine team dismantled the labs.
Arrested were Eva C. Jackson, 35, of 504 W. Main St. Apt. B, and Mary R. Davis, 44, of 401 W. Jefferson St., Mentone. Both women were preliminarily charged with dealing and manufacturing methamphetamine, a Class B felony; and maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony.
Jackson and Davis are both being held at the Kosciusko County Jail on $10,000 surety bonds.
Agencies that assisted with the investigation were Warsaw Police Department Narcotics Officer, Indiana State Police Clandestine Unit (Bremen Post), Winona Lake Police Department and members of the Centralized Drug Enforcement Unit.
The Mentone Police Department is asking residents of Mentone and Kosciusko County to report any known illegal narcotics activity to your local police department.
