The fifth graders at North Webster Elementary put on their annual wax museum presentations on Friday, May 16.

In its 11th year, these presentations are the culmination of everything the students have been working on all year.

“I like the way it brings everything together: writing, history, research,” said Mitch Willaman, a fifth grade teacher at the school. “Not to mention the connection with art and public speaking.”

The wax museum is a full-on, multimedia presentation. The students pick a historical figure – such as Martin Luther King Jr, Amelia Earhart, and Walt Disney, to name a few – and studiously research the person.

Students then prepared an oral presentation about their subject. They also painted portraits of the person they research.

During the wax museum, students hung their paintings, dressed in period clothes and enthusiastically delivered their presentations to other students, teachers and parents. Each presentation only lasted a few minutes but all were very informative.

Willaman said the skills learned for this project will give these students a very useful skills as the head into middle school next year.
