Sex With Inmate, Trafficking Charges Filed Against Jail Officers
Elkhart County Sheriff Brad Rogers is planning a press conference for Wednesday morning to discuss charges filed against two Elkhart County Jail officers.
Adrian Long and Aaron Vandekeere are facing prison time for allegedly having illegal interactions with inmates. WSBT-TV reports that Long, who has since resigned his position, is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a female inmate.
Long has been charged with sexual misconduct by service provider with a detainee, a Class C felony. If convicted, he could face up to 8 years in prison. Long was arrested on a warrant and held on a $20,000 bond.
WSBT also reports that Vanderkeere is accused of smuggling contraband to jail inmates in exchange for money. Vandekeere allegedly contacted an undercover officer by phone and met with the officer on two different occasions to get cigarettes, a lighter and/or a cell phone and a cell phone card. Investigators believe the contraband was then passed to a jail inmate.
On April 25, Vandekeere was arrested and immediately fired.
He is charged with two counts of trafficking with an inmate and may face more charges. Vanderkeere faces up to 9 years behind bars. His bond was set at $25,000.
