Police Chase Suspect Tased, Apprehended
Indiana Conservation Officers arrested Paul J. Miller, 43, after he allegedly resisted law enforcement while on Tri County Fish and Wildlife Area property.
The incident, which resulted in a short police pursuit, happened Sunday evening.
According to Indiana Conservation Officers, Miller fled the scene in his 1995 Ford box truck as officers from five police followed him to his residence in Cromwell. Officers say the incident began at about 6:15 p.m. when ICO Nick Vander Molen attempted to speak with Miller while he was on the Tri County Fish and Wildlife Area property. Miller refused to speak with the officer and got into his truck against officer Vander Molen’s orders, then drove away.
Officer Vander Molen followed Miller with his emergency lights and sirens activated, but Miller refused to stop.
Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriffs Department, North Webster Police Department, Syracuse Police Department and the Ligonier Police Department then joined officer Vander Molen in the pursuit. Indiana Conservation Officer Tyler Brock, who was nearby, also assisted in the apprehension attempt of Miller.
Miller led police through northeast Kosciusko County as he made his way to his residence located at 11348 N. Biscayne Ln., in the Enchanted Hills area. Once stopped, Miller still refused to exit his vehicle. He also locked the doors of the truck and rolled up the windows.
Officers gained entry to the vehicle by smashing the driver’s side window and unlocking the door. Miller continued to ignore orders to exit the vehicle and ultimately was tased into compliance.
Miller was booked into the Kosciusko County jail on charges of felony resisting arrest with a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license, which is an infraction. Miller’s vehicle was impounded by Indiana Conservation Officers and removed from the scene as the investigation continued.
