North Webster Public Library Announcements
Everybody loves a parade and that’s what Writer’s Corner will be writing about this month. At 10 a.m. Monday, May 19, this group will meet to share the essays they’ve written about parades.
Writer’s Corner meets the third Monday morning each month to encourage each other, share ideas, and hone their writing skills. You don’t have to be an accomplished writer to fit in, just someone who enjoys writing or wants to learn how. We don’t critique grammar or spelling. We just focus on expressing our ideas on paper. Newcomers are welcome to sit in and see what we’re all about.
If you would rather read what others have written, R.E.A.D. Book Club later that day at 5:30 p.m. may be more to your liking. R.E.A.D. stands for “read, eat and discuss”, and that’s exactly what we do. We read an assigned book each month, then meet to discuss the book and enjoy light refreshments. On Monday, the club will be discussing Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. Next month’s book will be Bento Box in the Heartland by Linda Furiya. R.E.A.D. Book Club is a fun way to discover new books and authors while enjoying the fellowship of other readers.
Also at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 19, Lose It @ The Library, our weekly weight loss support group, will meet for their weekly confidential weigh-in and walk the corridors of the North Webster Community Center. This free program meets every Monday evening for weigh-in and encouragement. The first and third Mondays of the month, the group walks together following weigh-in. Then on the second and fourth Mondays, an informative program is presented. Topics include nutrition, food preparation, health issues, weight loss strategies, and many other topics. During months with five Mondays, a special program or guest speaker is planned on the fifth week.
Do you have experience in genealogy or enjoy researching family history? Then you might enjoy being a part of the Glean Team. This group of genealogy buffs meets at 10 a.m. the first three Wednesdays of each month to help each other in their genealogy research or work on local history projects. Glean Team has been responsible for transcribing many of the area’s local cemeteries. Informative programs are often presented as well as occasional field trips. If interested, join us at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 14.
If you’re looking for an exciting activity for the family, don’t miss the spectacular Laser Light Show at Wawasee High School at 7 p.m. Friday, May 16. At this free action packed show, families will learn about the Summer Reading Program at area libraries and all the exciting activities planned to keep youth reading and engaged in learning all summer long. The North Webster Community Public Library’s Summer Reading Program starts Monday, June 2. Stop by the Youth Services Desk for details.
