Warsaw Track Team Dominates Again
MIDDLEBURY – It was the same old, same old for the Warsaw boys track team Wednesday night.
The Tigers put the finishing touches on an undefeated regular season with another dominating conference win.
The duo of Dylan Campbell and Storm Stapleton each won a pair of individual events as Warsaw whipped Northridge 100-32 in Northern Lakes Conference action.
The Tigers, who won 14 events in the league blowout win, finished the regular season at 8-0 overall and 7-0 in the NLC.
Coach Matt Thacker’s talented and deep team, despite missing several key performers Wednesday evening, stretched its NLC winning streak to 27 in a row.
Campbell won both hurdles races to pace the Tigers, who were coming off the championship of their own Max Truex Invitational on Friday night. Campbell won the 110 hurdles in a time of 16.70 and then crossed the finish line first in the 300 race in 42.39.
Stapleton, one of the unsung heroes of an outstanding team this spring, won the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.58. He also claimed first in the 200 in a top time of 23.71. For good measure, Stapleton also ran a leg on the winning 4 X 100 relay team. He teamed up with Ross Armey, Lucas Cone and Steven Reinholt for first in 44.79.
Also winning on the track for the Tigers were Nick Bergen in the 1,600 (5:03.14), Chad Goon in the 400 (53.27), Tyler Houvener in the 800 (2:02.75) and Ellis Coon in the 3,200 (9:52.82). The 4 X 800 relay team of Ismael Calderon, Daniel Messenger, Owen Glogovsky and Houvener also won in 8:14.80.
Warsaw won four times in the field events, led by star senior and Kentucky bound big man Seth Fouts. Fouts won the shot put with a throw of 59-7. Andrew Scheidt won the discus competition with a toss of 144-1, while Stephen Kolbe went 6-2 to win the high jump and Rashaan Jackson flew 20-11 1/2 in winning the long jump.
Collecting second place finishes for the undefeated Tigers were Fouts (discus), Landon Perry (200), Calderon (800), Armey (110 and 300 hurdles), Coon (1,600), Cone (100) and Riley Rhoades (400).
Warsaw got third place efforts from Josh Malagon (110 hurdles), Nick Light (200), Brock Riley (high jump), Caleb Ray (long jump), Ben Plummer (shot put) and Jake Fayed (pole vault).
Nick Adams won the junior varsity mile for the Tigers in a time of 4:50.73.
Warsaw will host the NLC Championship Meet on Tuesday night.
