Memorial Trumps Concord, Wawasee
SYRACUSE – Memorial closed out its Northern Lakes Conference girls track round robin in style. Winning 10 of the 16 events, Memorial shut the door on Wawasee, 87-45, and Concord, 70-61.5, while Concord outpointed Wawasee, 81-51.
Memorial moved to 5-2 in the NLC with Sierra Moore leading the way with wins in the 800 (2:23.68) and 1600 (5:22.08) races. Moore also helped the 4×800 relay team open the night with a 10:08.65 win.
Wawasee picked up just one event win Tuesday, a 8-0 clearance by Taylor Busse in the pole vault, the first pole vault win for Busse this season. Wawasee also had a JV race win, earned by Stephanie Mejia in the 400 in a time of 1:13.34, with a sweep coming when Jade Skelton and Brooke-Lynn Whetten took second and third in the race.
Wawasee (2-5 NLC) had a handful of runner-up finishes. In the field, Katlyn Kennedy tossed the pill 34-7 in the shot put and Alexis Manges hurled the saucer 98-10 in discus. Catherine Yankosky added a second in the 100 (13.17) and third in the 200 (28.17).
Jessica O’Connell paced Concord with wins in the 100 hurdles (15.59) and 300 hurdles (46.44) as well as ran the winning leg of the 4×100 relay at 52.82 and helped the 4×400 relay to a win at 4:14.71.
Wawasee will participate in the Goshen Relays this Saturday then focus on the Northern Lakes Conference championships Tuesday at Warsaw. Memorial and Concord are off until the conference championships next week.
