Why Attack Churches?
Dear Editor,
As a Pastor for over 30 years I am aware that there is an ongoing attempt by some elected officials at the state and national government level to control and harm churches and their ministries.
I have traveled to the State House the last two years to listen to debate by our legislators about giving the government more control over churches. The bills that have been discussed in the House of Representatives have been heard in the committee where Representative Rebecca Kubacki is a member. Unfortunately Representative Kubacki has been a leader in the effort to pass legislation that would harm the ability of churches to help families in their community.
When I tried to discuss some of my concerns with Representative Kubacki, she became very rude and defensive about the detrimental legislation she supported and I could tell she really didn’t want to hear anything I had to say.
You may hear Representative Kubacki talk about the need to pass legislation to protect children who attend a child care ministry at a church. What she neglects to tell people is that there are already laws on the books dealing with health and safety and fire code issues.
What she also neglects to mention is that parents have chosen the church to provide child care for their child. If they are not happy with the church ministry they will choose another setting for their child.
What Representative Kubacki apparently does not understand is that the Lord gave children to parents to raise in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Children were not given to the government to raise.
Representative Kubacki’s previous actions in the legislature have been detrimental to the parents, children and churches of Indiana.
Additionally, her unwillingness to even listen to someone who has concerns about her legislation is wrong. She is supposed to be a representative. Furthermore, her abrupt verbal reaction to a pastor who took the time to travel to Indianapolis and who wanted to point out problems with her legislation was both inappropriate and unprofessional. I am a pastor with concerns for laws that are being passed that would be very detrimental to all church’s of Indiana.
Instead of attacking churches, Representative Kubacki should be commending churches for the positive impact they have in their community and the help they provide to families and children.
Representative Kubacki has forfeited the opportunity to be a State Representative. It’s time for a change. It’s time to elect Curt Nisly May 6 to be our State Representative at the State House.
