Petro Paces Tigers To Second Place
WINONA LAKE – The Warsaw boys golf team collected a second-place finish Saturday in the newly named Don Dicken Classic.
The Warsaw Orange team, ranked No. 11 in the state, shot a team total of 313 over the Stonehenge Golf Club layout to place runner-up in the 11-team event.
No. 2 Columbus North won the championship with a 299.
Will Petro paced coach Ben Barkey’s Tigers with a round of 76.
Ryan Cultice shot a 78 and Jonny Hollar a 79 for the hosts. Brandon Eckert came in with an 80 and Reid Cameron an 85.
The Warsaw Black team shot 379 to finish in 10th place.
Josh Ahlersmeyer and Michael Jensen each shot an 88 for lead the Warsaw Black team. Jacob Foster finished with a 94, Luke Johnson 98 and Tim Rata 109.
Warsaw’s Robbie Sullivan shot a 94 and Sawyer Stevens a 108 while competing as individuals.
The tournament, formerly known as the Warsaw Invitational, was renamed this year in honor of Don Dicken. Dicken, a PGA Master Professional, was the Rozella Ford Pro from 1961-95 and has contributed greatly to the WCHS golf program over the years.
Crown Point placed third in the tourney with a 326. Homestead was fourth, also with a 326, followed by Mishawaka Marian (333), Fort Wayne Canterbury (333), Boone Grove (338), Triton (342), Marion (349), Warsaw Black (379) and Lafayette Jeff (418).
Warsaw hosts Columbia City and Huntington North Thursday at Stonehenge. The Tigers will then play in the Wawasee Invitational on Saturday at South Shore in Syracuse.
