Grace’s Johnson Receives National Honor
WINONA LAKE – To cap off a remarkable week for Samantha Johnson, the freshman was named the NCCAA National Softball Player of the Week.
Johnson batted an incredible .706 over six games last week, which included 12 hits in 17 at-bats. She doubled three times and drove in seven runs, posting an .882 slugging percentage and a .772 on-base percentage.
Additionally, she did not make a field error in nine opportunities while managing Grace’s center field. She was 2-for-2 in Grace’s upset of league-leader Taylor last week.
Johnson was also named the Crossroads League Player of the Week on Monday.
For the season, Johnson is batting .326. She has a team-best .404 average in league competition.
The Lady Lancers are currently tied for fourth place in the CL standings, two games out of second place under head coach Heather Johnson. Grace is scheduled to play at Huntington on Thursday before hosting Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Friday at Miller Field.
